The San Vito Neighborhood

The San Vito neighborhood is situated in the highest part of the town. It is among the oldest areas of Monreale, along with the Pozzillo and Carrubella neighborhoods. According to historical sources, it is considered the oldest in Monreale, as Arab merchants who sold their goods and fruits in Palermo during the Islamic domination in Sicily originated from this area, known as Balhara at that time. It is characterized by narrow alleys and preserves a medieval layout.
