The Pozzillo Neighborhood

It is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Monreale, along with San Vito and Carrubbella. It takes its name from the water that flowed in a fountain lower than street level, 'so low that it resembles a half well.' In this place, houses made of 'tapia,' large bricks of raw clay used by the Arabs, can be seen. According to some scholars, the settlement developed around the source of Pozzillo and then expanded towards the squares of the historic center.
