The Church of San Vito

It is located in the district of San Vito, from which it takes its name. It is the oldest church in Monreale, having been built a few years before the cathedral, and its construction caused an economic and social crisis in the neighbourhood, the effects of which persist to this day. The church, in Arab-Norman style, is built on a square base divided into three naves, and its mixed brick façade is rectangular in shape.

This church is characterised by its historical renovations over time. An initial renovation dates back to the 16th century, but it was in the 18th century that a complete renovation of the church took place, especially the interior decorations in the Neoclassical style. The last restoration took place in 1985, with the relocation of the baptismal font, the renovation of the left aisle flooring and the restoration of the downpipes and gutters.
