Diocesan Museum

This space is destined to house the Diocesan Museum of Monreale, which by definition is a Museum of Christian Art that must represent the faith and devotion of the people belonging to the diocese over time. It is therefore not just a museum that exhibits works of art, but a museum that emphasises their history and symbolism, and which is distributed over three levels in the Archbishop's Palace.
The first, on the ground floor, has a long entrance leading to the Sala di San Placido, which has a scenic opening onto the cloister, with a bookshop. The great hall of San Placido, with access to the cloister, offers not only large walls for the large altarpieces, but also enough space for the grandiose tapestry depicting the famous theme of William's Dream.  On the second floor, in two large, communicating rooms, the museum layout offers a route that develops the history of the diocese through the enlightened patronage of the bishop. Also on the second floor in a separate room is an ethno-anthropological section containing significant devotional works.
Norman Hall
This room houses the oldest works in the museum's artistic heritage.

The Renaissance Room
Continuing the chronological route through history, the room displays the medallion with the Madonna and Child, from the Abbey of Santa Maria del Bosco.

Ethno-anthropological Hall
The exhibition route through the Diocesan Museum also offers the public a careful selection of exhibits of historical and ethno-anthropological interest through historical evidence of the faith and piety of the territory of the Monreale Diocese, as well as the Renda Pitti collection.

Hall of the Bishops
This room houses artefacts and faith testimonies of some of the Archbishops of Monreale.
