Located inside the former Benedictine monastery and established following a donation by painter Eleonora Posabella as a tribute in memory of Monreale writer and art critic Giuseppe Sciortino, the Monreale Public Gallery houses paintings on canvas, works on paper, sculptures and ceramics by contemporary artists. Of particular interest is the paintingThe Adoration of the Shepherds by Mattia Stomer, and the collection of works by contemporary artists from the Nocera Foundation. The museum's collection also includes 226 works including paintings and sculptures. Among the creators in the collection are Guttuso, Pirandello, Soffici, Greco, Guidi, Maccari, Marini, Morandi, Purificato, De Chirico and De Pisis, and the younger Attardi, Calabria, Borghese, Schifano, Vespignani and Zappitelli.
